Handcrafted wines, using nothing but the best South Okanagan Valley,
British Columbia, Canadian grapes.
Family owned and operated, we look after wine-making from grape to glass, and we’re pretty good at it.
Nestled in Canada’s premier grape-growing region, our vineyard was planted in 1980.
Our wines end up well balanced, complex and approachable due to our diligent farming and fabulous terroir.
The Castoro de Oro Estate Vineyard is located in the famed Golden Mile and has a unique soil combination from alluvial deposit, southeast aspect with excellent exposure to sunshine resulting in full flavour and aroma development. The vineyard slope with the lake at the foot, providing excellent frost drainage, keeps the vines safe from late spring or early fall frost problems, allowing the grapes to ripen fully. The vines are planted to the foot of a mountain, which provides evening shade, resulting in a rapid cool-off during summer, which prevents the grape acids from dropping and results in a fine balance between ripe, sweet fruit and firm, clean acidity. All of which is an ideal foundation for growing superior grapes. White and red grapes grow equally well in this class one grape growing terroir and enables the production of terrific wines of many types in a wide range of styles.

Even though we are a young country, we have worked many hard long days to make our mark. Castoro de Oro is honoured to be a part of Canada’s great history. Our Crimson Rhapsody won the People’s Choice award for “Best Red” at the Edmonton and Calgary Wine Fests this past February. A Bordeaux red with a kick from Syrah, this big red is full-bodied with fruity flavours of plum, currant and blackberry, and notes pepper and coffee. The blend is finished in French oak barrels for 18 months adding to its sumptuous richness.
Our Radiant Rhapsody won runner up for the People’s Choice award for the best white at the Calgary Wine Fest. People were drawn to this crisp sémillion and sweet sauv blanc blend for its slightly off dry, fruit forward flavour and unassuming full body. Great balance with a citrus finish.
The Castoro de Oro Merlot and Heart of Gold were named the centennial wine for the Fairmont hotel MacDonald in Edmonton to celebrate its 100th anniversary. A Canadian landmark, “the Mac” pays homage to Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald. Similarly, Castoro de Oro pays homage to the national emblem of the beaver, and also to the gold mining that spurred the establishment of the town Oliver in 1918.
The Merlot is an award-winning wine, receiving gold at the 2015 All Canadian Wine Championships and voted “best red” at the Edmonton and Calgary Wine Fests in February 2017. The Heart of Gold is a popular favourite for being dry with a cotton candy finish, and also won the Judges’ Selection “Best White Blend” at the 2014 Alberta Beverage Awards. Both wines are available at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Fairmont Vancouver Waterfront and Fairmont Vancouver Pacific Rim.
